Feeling rusty with your Algebra and Trig?

These two-hour sessions provide an opportunity for you to brush up with a review which highlights not only the basics, but many of the interconnections often unvisited in the progress of a usual course.
  • Tuesday 28 January 2020 - 7:00-9:00 PM Malott 406 Algebra Review

Intent of the Algebra and Trig Reviews

The Algebra and Trig Reviews are intended primarily for students going into a first semester Calculus class or anyone wishing to brush up on their Algebra and Trigonometry. Courses for which these reviews are likely to be of most interest:
  • MATH 1110
  • MATH 1106
  • MATH 1105 (Algebra only -- MATH 1105 does not use much Trig)
  • MATH 1910 -- likely useful only if you're feeling particularly rusty

However, Feedback in the Math Support Center has shown that even the occasional student in somewhat more advanced 1000 level courses have wished they knew about them.

The reviews begin with some suggestions about strategies for success in Math classes and classes which use Mathematics as an important tool. The reviews are presented with the idea that you have seen the material before. The presentation emphasizes Algebra and Trig as important tools to have in your Mathematical toolbox. Simpler concepts are presented in the context of the role they play to enable confident use of more complicated concepts. Emphasizing the "tools" idea, each review also covers at least one topic which students often find challenging as an example of "How Mathematics is Invented" (or is it discovered?!).
